MUSIC MINISTRY

One of the things people love most about Birmingham UMC is the blended style of worship. Each service has music from our Sanctuary Worship Band with contemporary praise songs and traditional hymns sung by the BUMC Choir. It’s one of the things that makes Birmingham UMC unique! Learn more about our music offerings and how you can get involved below.

Sanctuary Worship Band

The Sanctuary Worship Band is led by Jonathan Wolfe. The group consists of paid and volunteer members including:

BUMC CHOIR MINISTRY

CHANCEL CHOIR

The Chancel Choir is a volunteer choir welcoming those in middle school through adult singers. There are no requirements other than a love of music! Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:30-8:30 p.m. and/or Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. Either or both rehearsals are sufficient.

SPECIAL CHOIRS
Don’t want to commit year-long? There are several options for short-term choirs including:
Advent Choir: sing the songs of Christmas starting practices on November 6, 2024.
Lent Choir: sing for the Lenten season starting TBD
Summer Choir: sing for the summer familiar hymns with rehearsals only on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. Summer Choir is typically in June & July.
Special Groups: sing in small groups (think women’s groups, quartets, mixed, men’s groups, etc.) that perform throughout the year.

BIRMINGHAM BELLS
Birmingham UMC also has a five-octave bell choir for middle school through adults. Ability to read music is helpful, but not required. There are always substitute positions available!

INSTRUMENTS
We love musical instruments! Do you have a special talent for a musical instrument you’d like to share with us? Let us know!

CHILDREN’S CHOIR
We have a children’s choir that meets at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday morning led by Jennifer Marietta. They perform at special concerts and about once a quarter on Sunday mornings. If you are interested please visit the Children’s Ministry page for more information.

DRAMA
Many of our services and special programs (like Christmas, Good Friday, etc.) offer opportunities for dramatic readings and/or performing. No music requirement for these parts; just a strong voice!
