SUMMARY:Men's Grill: April Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Men’s Grill is open to anyone in our community regardless of church membership. It is a chance to form connections\, eat some good food\, and learn from a speaker. \nThis Men’s Grill\, we will have food and fellowship followed by a presentation about Project Healing Waters. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing began in 2005 serving wounded military service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then\, the organization has spread nationwide\, establishing its program in the Department of Defense Hospitals\, Warrior Transition Units\, and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and Clinics. \nLawrence Petrowicz will be joining us on April 10. Lawrence is a retired disabled Navy Chief. He lives with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) from his service but has found a way to manage it. He is a member of Project Healing Waters\, and because of this program\, he is helping others get in the waters to heal and fly fish through his own organization 706 Fly Guy.

DESCRIPTION:We are fortunate to have Scott Parrish\, Missions Specialist with the North Georgia Conference\, take a break from his busy clean-up efforts to be with us on Thursday\, March 13. There will be food provided for all to enjoy a meal before the presentation. \nScott serves North Georgia Conference churches in disaster response ministries\, missions\, and community engagement. He also leads our UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) grant-funded disaster recovery work. \nScott will speak to Men’s Grill about the mission work of UMCOR here at home and around the world and will share specific updates on hurricane relief efforts presently underway in Augusta and elsewhere in Georgia. Fellowship Hall\nTime? 6:30 – 8p.m. \nThis month’s guest speaker is Richard Fabozzi. \nWhen Richard Fabozzi was in the seventh grade\, he won his first public speaking contest\, was in his first musical\, and has been speaking and singing ever since. After receiving an AAS Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology\, he decided not to pursue a BS in Electrical Engineering. At the age of twenty-two\, he was selling the Dale Carnegie Course and after spending thirty years in Management\, he transformed his speaking and singing avocation into his true career. \nSince then\, he has presented over 3\,500 speaking\, wellness\, singing\, and emceeing programs to corporations\, associations\, churches\, school districts\, healthcare facilities\, retirement communities\, and more. Richard sparks the Soul with content\, energy\, entertainment\, fun\, music\, joy\, interaction\, laughter\, and spontaneity. He is a former student of Zig Ziglar\, Zig’s Mentor\, Fred Smith\, Tony Robbins\, and Brian Tracy. He is also a member of the National Speakers Association Georgia chapter. \nAn author of two books\, a Cancer Survivor and his mission in life is to inspire others to motivate themselves\, if they so choose\, to become their Best Selves.

With countless hours spent immersed in the foundational works of great thinkers\, sages\, and sacred text\, Bruner became convinced there was a missing thread within the intricate tapestry of intellectual and spiritual wisdom. But it wasn’t until a most challenging time that the Beatitudes found Bruner\, shedding light on the wisdom of Jesus\, revitalizing his mind and spirit\, and revealing the mysteries of Scripture. \nBruner’s career has been a fascinating journey\, encompassing roles such as director of social work for the Masonic Children’s Home\, a senior executive in the computer industry for two decades\, entrepreneur\, mentor\, Stephens minister\, and Enneagram coach.

Deborah Williams Haag\, Pastor at Trinity UMC in downtown Atlanta. Pastor Deborah will talk about the work of Trinity Table\, a mission of Trinity UMC to reach the homeless in Atlanta. \nWe will also be collecting clothing! The closet at Trinity Table provides a pair of pants\, a shirt\, a belt\, shoes\, and more to those facing homelessness. Clean out your closets or pick up some clothes to donate. Please make sure all used clothing is in good condition. Here is a list of their most needed items: \n\nMen’s Pants size 32-36 waist\nMen’s Shirts size XL and XXL\nMen’s Shoes 11.5 or less\nWomen’s clothes size M\, L or XL\nWomen’s stretchy pants\nMen’s AND Women’s jackets\, hoodies and gloves (size M and up)\nAdditional toiletry items including: feminine products\, deodorant\, large bars of soap\, hair care products for African American hair\n\nDrop items off at the church between now and Thursday\, September 28.

He has written several books including Bygone Treasures and Timeless Beauties: Barns of Old Milton County. \nIn addition to writing\, Bob was previously in the US Diplomatic Service living in Panama\, Peru\, Chile\, Belgium\, and Switzerland. He was a member of the Tokyo Round Trade Negotiations for five years. Bob also served as the Special Assistant to the White House Staff Director under Jimmy Carter. \nFrom his diverse interests and past experiences\, Bob will speak on how these things shaped his faith. \nThis is the last Men’s Grill until the fall\, so we hope you can make it!

Through this journey\, Mark personally benefited from the freedom found in forgiveness. Mark founded 70×7\, a faith-based nonprofit based around providing assistance for people hanging on to pain\, shame and blame from a past hurt to help them on their path to forgiveness. We get mixed messages and conflicting advice from everywhere.\nHow do we provide for\, lead\, and love our families\, and take care of our own needs? \nAbout the Speaker:\nDerek Struchtemeyer is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia; and is in full-time private practice with Canton Counseling in Holly Springs where he primarily works with young adults\, couples\, and families. He is also active in the middle school and high school Youth Ministry here at BUMC. Derek has been married to the lovely Darby for 25 years this year; their son Logan will graduate from Georgia Tech this spring\, and their daughter Sydney will graduate from Sequoyah HS and pursue her music career.
