You may have heard this psalm written by David. In the King James’ version, “my heart grows faint” is translated to “my heart is overwhelmed”. I think a lot of our hearts are faint or overwhelmed. I mean, have you turned on the news lately?! So, what can we do about it?
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Throughout the Bible God is referred to as the rock. David is searching for God with his overwhelmed heart. Are you searching for God in between the headlines, too? David knew some fundamental things that we could learn from today.
First, The good news of this psalm, and countless others, is that God does not leave or forsake us. God is always with us. We seek can seek out God’s refuge, and we can tell God the things on our hearts. We can do that with honesty – God can handle it!
Secondly, while we can lament the woes of the world, we can also sing praises as David did that God is everlasting and ever faithful. David cries out in desperation at the beginning of the psalm, but at the end, he still rejoices. He knows God is faithful.
May you hold tight to your faith when your heart is overwhelmed.
May you listen to God and trust in God’s understanding.
May you always, always rejoice in God’s goodness.
