JERRY LUCAS, “DR. MEMORY”
Jerry Lucas, NBA legend and author of New York Times best seller, The Memory Book, will speak at BUMC today and tomorrow. He will share the Lucas Learning System™ of memory training that he has developed - easy, fun, and long-lasting ways of retaining information. He has dazzled audiences on national talk shows and taught this system to millions through seminars and the sale of his books. Sports Illustrated named Jerry Lucas “one of the five most outstanding college basketball players in the Twentieth Century.” Today he will speak at both worship services and at 6:30 p.m. Tomorrow he will speak at 7:00 p.m. All events will be in the Sanctuary.

BUMC MISSION CORNER
Murphy - Harpst Day Trip on March 1 - A sock hop birthday party is planned for the children of Murphy-Harpst. Families are welcome (children 12 and up) to join in to provide a well-deserved party for these special children.
Mexico Mission Trip - SERV Ministries has scheduled its first Tent Project of 2008 for March 7-15 in Escobedo, near Monterrey, Mexico. The project will be held in conjunction with a local congregation, Lluvia Tardia. The pastor, Roberto Marino, and his church are very excited about the opportunity to minister to their community. The cost is expected to be around $600 to $700 each.
Kenya - SERV Ministries will postpone the April mission trip to Kenya to the summer. Dates will be confirmed as soon as possible. Minimum cost will be $3000. Passports and immunizations are required.

Mexico Mission Trip - A BUMC-sponsored SERV trip to an orphanage near Monterrey, Mexico is scheduled for the week of July 25.

Hinton Rural Life Center, N. Carolina
June 22 - 27
Cost: $450 which covers meals (except fast food there/back), travel expenses, tools/supplies for home repair, and lodging. HRLC is a mission project that serves the local Appalachian community near Hayesville, NC. Our other annual mission trip, CCC, actually spawned out of some of the mission format of Hinton. CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING
Mark your calendars for a Church Council meeting next Sunday, March 2, at 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All ministry leaders are expected to attend. This is a critical meeting because we will also be approving the 2008 budget.

NEW CONNECTIONS CLASS
A new Connections class started last Sunday. It will meet on Feb. 24 and March 2 and 9 at 11:00 a.m. in Room E221 in the Education Building. This class is a chance to connect with others, learn about the church, its leaders, and the uniqueness of
Methodism. All new members are expected to attend these classes. Byron Foster will lead the class.

MURPHY-HARPST NEEDS
The staff at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center gives a “prom” for the high school seniors. The tentative date is May 9. They need money for gas for the limo driver, a digital photographer who does a package of photos for each senior, dinner and decoration supplies; and prom clothes. They also need a hair and makeup stylist. Since Milton’s prom is so early this year, please consider donating dresses, shoes, and jewelry for the Murphy-Harpst seniors.
