Invitation and Welcome

What to Expect

Stepping into an unfamiliar church for the first time can be a little intimidating and maybe even uncomfortable for some people. When you visit Birmingham UMC you can expect to feel welcomed and accepted. Our church is an energetic, intimate, and dynamic church that is filled with singles, families, children, teenagers, infants, and senior adults.

Worship.jpgWhoever you are, you will be encouraged by our passionate, full-band worship team, relevant and creative presentations of the Gospel, and life-changing prayer times that will challenge and empower you. You will notice a warm and personable atmosphere, but more importantly, we hope you will find us to be a Christ-centered church. Birmingham UMC revolves around Jesus and strives to be a healing place for a hurting world. We invite you to come as you are, leave different than you came, and expect the unexpected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Birmingham UMC is located at 15770 Birmingham Highway in Milton, Georgia. The main building, which includes the Worship Center and Education Building, is positioned toward the back of our 63-acre property. The Chapel, located directly on Birmingham Highway at the north entrance, was the original church building and now serves as our Student Center.

To find the main building from the north entrance, you will drive past the Chapel, then by the ballfield into the main parking lot. Our Worship Center will be on the right. If you enter from the south entrance, you will pass our Memorial Gardens into the main parking lot. Should you arrive early, please join us for a cup of coffee in the Cloister between the Sanctuary and Education Building.

How should I dress?

Dress comfortably. You will see people in anything from "office casual" to jeans and sneakers.

What time is worship?

We have two identical worship services on Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. In the Cloister (courtyard between the Worship Center and Education Building), you will find refreshments as well as a Welcome Kiosk where a volunteer or staff person can answer any questions you have about BUMC.

Worship Praise Band.jpgWhat is worship like?

Our worship services are blended in style. We sing praise songs and familiar hymns, include special music from talented soloists, our Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir, and recite familiar liturgy.

Where do our children go?

We have an outstanding Children's Ministry located in our Education Building across the Cloister from the Worship Center. Children are also welcome in our worship services.

  • At 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. all children, infants through 5th grade, meet on the lower level of the Education Building.
  • Sunday School for 1st–5th grade begins with a large group assembly time where the lesson for that day is taught. Afterward, children gather in small groups for crafts, games, and activities related to the lesson, as well as prayer.
  • Just inside the entrance to the Education Building, you will find a welcome center for first-time visitors.
  • Each room has a sign-in notebook with visitor information cards, name tags (including special name tags for children with allergies) If your child has a food allergy please bring it to our attention. We want all of our children to be safe and for parents to feel confident about leaving their children in our care.
  • The nursery is located on the lower level of the Education Building. Most of our nursery staff and volunteers have been CPR trained. Beepers are also available.
  • An alternative to the nursery is the "Cry Room” adjacent to the Sanctuary. The worship service is clearly visible through a large window and can be heard as well. This space is designed to allow parents to fully participate in worship while caring for their infants and small children.
